There’s Touring, Endurance, Open Wheel, Tuner and Street, each offering a different 4-wheeled experience and covering nearly everything you could want in a racing game (barring rallying, which they’ve got their own series for anyway). There are 5 to choose from, each coming with it’s own intro video so you know what you’re letting yourself in for, and all are pretty self explanatory – race as fast as you can and beat the competition. Once you’re through the setup though it’s time to pick a racing discipline and get going.

I need to stress this because I think it’s one of the best things I’ve seen in a racing game – putting you in full control of how it works so that you can get the most out of the game. And believe me, you’ll want to get some of that bonus XP coming in as soon as you can. The good part is that there’s a baseline XP awarded regardless of how you decided to tackle the events, and changing the options either raises or lowers a percentage bonus XP depending on how easy/hard you want it. To a degree, booting the game up to the menu felt like coming home – I hadn’t had a good experience with GRID 2 and wasn’t expecting to play another game in the series, but Codemasters have a unique way of presenting their games which draws you in and feels familiar, and you instantly know you’re in something that’s been built with the Ego engine. Does it deliver a pure racing experience usually reserved for the games that like to use “sim” in the advertising, or does it keep its accessible roots so that anyone can drive it? It requires at least 4 GB of space and the latest operating system. Lastly, all its content can get imposing for devices. It also keeps you eligible for future updates. You only pay for it once and you get to enjoy the full game, all downloadable content included. Lastly, as a paid game, it doesn’t aim to grab cash at every turn. Whereas most racing games can be played by simply pressing the gas and avoiding obstacles, this actually requires you to learn turning and braking as well. The handling even varies depending on the car you drive, requiring preparation from the player. Be ready, especially since the game is not easy to get into. Both the vehicles and the environment feature crisp graphics and high-resolution textures at every turn.įor the gameplay, the accuracy and immersion come at the cost of difficulty.

On the plus side, it gives you top-tier graphics that run well at maximum graphics settings. It lacks the variety of supercars and the extent of customization available on Asphalt or NFS.
Among racing games, GRID Autosport is better classified as a driving simulator, much like entries in the Gran Turismo franchise.
